Food Stop: Sea Slugs
Location: El Nido, Palawan
Date: April 18, 2014
Among the recommended restaurants by the locals, Sea Slugs is one of the top choices. We were not able to eat there on our first night in El Nido because it was already full when we got there. So the next night, we went there earlier and we were able to secure a table for two. They regularly have singers during dinner which adds up to the ambiance of a candle lit dinner by the beach.
To find Sea Slugs, just walk along the beach and you surely won't miss this restaurant. Just be sure to go there around 6 PM to have a table and avoid being on the wait list.

My Rating
Food/Drinks : 8
I asked them what their specialty is and it was Stuffed Squid. Honestly I was starting to be fed up with squid. It was my third meal with squid on it but I still ordered their house specialty. We also ordered Pork Adobo with French Fries. My Stuffed Squid came first and it was really (really) huge and even though it was a little dim, it still looked so delicious. The Pork Adobo came next and the smell alone would make you eat it right away. The French Fries was cut the same way KFC cuts their fries and the taste is same with the usual french fries. Their Stuffed Squid was unique because there was sliced apple included on the stuffing. The taste was almost the same with the other stuffed squid I ate. Their Pork Adobo was good and it was the "Star of the Table" for that night.
Service : 6
The service was not that bad but it really needs improvement. I think they need to add more people in the kitchen area or expand it because as I have observed the bottle neck in their service is located at their kitchen. It took a long time before our order came out of the kitchen. I understand they have lots of customers but they need to do something about it. Their head waiter is really nice though because he apologized for the delay in our food, our bill and our change. Their rating should have been lower if they have not realized and accepted their shortcomings and apologized for it.
Price : 7
It was not cheap but it was not expensive too. Their serving is huge. I check other people's order and it was surely enough for a normal person. We ordered one serving of Adobo with French Fries and it was good for 2 or 3 people.
Ambiance : 8
The tables are setup along the beach and are lit up with candles thus making a very nice and romantic ambiance. Adding to that is a soft and soothing acoustics from their performers. The ambiance should have been perfect 10 but there are stray dogs that freely roam around their dining area. Personally, I don't have problems with stray dogs staring at me while I eat but not everyone is the same as me. Some people are scared of dogs and become uneasy when there is one close to them. I think the dogs are harmless and just like me they just want to eat good food but I think the management of Sea Slugs should do something about it.
