I'm a little bored in work because I'm still waiting for my software development proposal to be approved by our president (Shachou). That is why I'm going to write about my short trip to the "Land of the Champions".
I think it's been 10 years ago when I last visited General Santos City. I lived there for about 5 years before we returned to our home town, Davao City. When I was still living there the place was a bit undeveloped. There were a few malls, streets were unpaved and there were a lot of vacant lots. I was amazed how much development the city had undergone through the years. Today General Santos City has a Robinson's Mall and the Old KCC Mall was renovated to become a classy looking mall. The Gaisano Mall is still there but it looks like it was left behind by the other malls. I also saw the place where SM Gensan would soon rise. The streets are not as dusty as before. Before when a Tricycle passes you by a cloud of dust and smoke would also pass you next. The government really did a good work in attracting investors and funding infrastructure development.

It was already dark when we arrived there. The first thing we did was to pass by Manny Pacquiao's Mansion. The place are drawing some tourists who wants to get a glimpse of Pacquiao's Expensive Mansion and Pacquiao himself. Some people are candidly posing beside the mansion's walls while being pictured. We did not spend so much time there. We just want to see how big the mansion was.
We continued our way to the KCC Mall to see what's new there. I was amazed on how much has changed the last time I went to that Mall. By the look of it, it could easily compete with Davao's Gaisano Mall. The interior was nice and the mall has wide walkways making it easy to navigate. Too sad it was time to go to our place in Gensan to rest and call it a day.
On the second day we went Mall Hopping. The first mall we went to is the KCC Mall of Gensan. I could safely say that this mall would be on the top of the list of mall goers. We strolled the place from edge to edge and we also have bought a few things too. The prices on this mall is so-so but I could assure the quality of the things you buy here is good. Our next stop was the Gaisano Mall of Gensan. During my childhood in GenSan, I would prefer going to this mall than KCC Mall. The reason is back in the days KCC Mall (for me) looks like a giant bodega but now it's the opposite. The Gaisano Mall of Gensan was left behind by its competition. I was sad to see the mall at its status. We just strolled for a bit in the mall and flashes of my childhood there would hit me and I would smirk a bit. We grabbed a few snack there before deciding to go to our next stop which is the Robinson's Mall (Gensan). As I assumed, Robinson's would be the place where the conios would go. The interior design is good and spacious. The only bad thing about the mall is it is not as big as other malls in Gensan. There is also a lot of places to eat there. Both the pricy ones and the cheap ones are there. We grabbed another set of snack there and bought a few things and then we decided to go home. Gensan is an important place for me as I had a great childhood there and maybe better than my childhood in Davao.
On the third day, we went to Olaer Cold Spring Resort. It was my aunt's birthday (The reason why I am in GenSan). This place would be a must go for those who wants a break from the busy city. The water is clear and cold thus it is very refreshing. I could remember going there several times during my childhood.
On our last night, we went to Oval Plaza to see its giant christmas themed decorations. The place was still like the Oval Plaza I knew. There was a carnival in town because it's a holiday season. As natural thrill seekers, we tried some of the rides there and games. We also bought few things such as a toy for my little brother, shades for me and other small stuff. We also grabbed some snacks while we are there. Some say General Santos City is a dangerous place but I think people who said that didnt even went GenSan. I may say it is relatively safe but a little caution would not hurt a tourist. After our stroll in the plaza we went to the park which is just a walk away from Oval Plaza. The place was different from how I remember it. It is more developed and safer too. It is a great place to take pictures and walk around. We just sat there and finished eating the food that we just bought at Oval Plaza. We decided to walk our way home as it is just near our house. I could clearly reminisce the past I had in GenSan. At the way home, We passed my former school (Holy Trinity College). I went there for 4 Years (Grade 5 until Second Year High School). I could see from outside the changes it went through and the things that remained the same.
I love my whole stay there. It was good to be back in a a familiar place. A place where you shared several experiences both good and bad. Gensan is the place where I met my first love and a lot of good friends. I will never forget the place called "The General's Place".
